About Farah DeJohnette Training and Integrative Horsemanship Bringing over 20 years of horse training expertise, Farah DeJohnette’s talent in competitive horse training blended with her Natural Horsemanship and Holistic programs, make her a uniquely skilled Trainer. Spending the better part of her youth taking lessons, working, and apprenticing for various local trainers in the Woodstock area, Farah began her first intensive apprenticeship with the Williamsburg Farm in 1995, home to the great Olympic stallion Abdullah and state of the art breeding operation. While competing and training some of their young stock, Farah began learning all the aspects of the professional equestrian industry. After working at Williamsburg Farm, she returned to the Woodstock, NY in 1996 to work part time for Pat Jacobson, Trainer, Equine Author and Artist. At the same time, she continued to bring her warmblood mare, Finessa along in her training. In order to keep advancing her career, Farah moved to Connecticut in 1998 and worked with Jenni Martin and Steve Mccallister, successful Grand Prix Jumping rider and Trainers on the West coast circuit. Moving to West Palm Beach Florida in 1999, Farah continued her training by working with acclaimed Dressage master, John Winnett, a seven-time Olympian in Dressage and Jumping, and his wife Roanne, a Top Eventer. Returning to Connecticut in the year 2000, Farah began setting up her own business, Farah DeJohnette Training. It was then that she began working with Virginia Leary a top Eventer and FEI Dressage competitor. Farah currently competes, still works with Virginia when she can and continues to bring along young prospects and sale horses for Competition and Pleasure. Farah has also studied intensively the following Master horseman. They have had a huge impact on her style, approach and methods: Carolyn Resnick, Pat Parelli, Monty Roberts, Mary Wanless, Linda Tellington, Chris Cox, John Lyons, Dennis Reis, Chris Irwin, Richard Schrake, Anne Kursinski, Bill Dorrance, Mark Rashid, Paul Belasik, Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling, Alois Podhajski plus the many clinics and lessons she has attended. Farah’s scope is broad and embraces many different methods. To sum it up simply, Farah’s approach is a blend of Dressage based training meets Natural Horsemanship meets Balanced seat riding or as I like to call it "Integrative Horsemanship". From Farah: “I would like to state that it is my personal pledge to myself and my current and future customers to continue to learn, grow, and stay open to new information and techniques so that I can be the best that I can be. I am not defined by one training method: I am a horseman. There is only one kind of training and one kind of riding. It is called Horsemanship. And that’s what I do. I study all disciplines and I learn from each one to create a rich knowledge base to draw from. This has allowed me the versatility to be able to work successfully with all types of breeds, temperaments, disciplines, and levels. In the end, the horses have been the greatest trainers I’ve ever had. Too numerous to count, each horse I've worked with has provided me with their own unique lesson. In fact, most of the things I learned about life, I learned in the presence of a horse.” |
